Maintaining World Class Quality Through Conservation

It begins in many different ways. A light tap, a slow tug, or getting the rod nearly ripped out of your hands from a ferocious strike. Your drag screams as the line gets stripped from your reel. Then comes that moment...your first look at him. Unconsciously, your mouth opens and your lungs suck a quick breath to compensate for the adrenaline being dumped into your veins. It's a Trophy! Your mind begins to race, is my drag set properly? Will my knot hold?

The moment every angler lives for, and YOU are holding it in your hands! No one knows what the outcome will be, but one thing is for certain. You will relive this moment in your dreams and hold it in your memories for a lifetime.

At "Meta Lake Lodge & Outpost Camps" we have been blessed to offer this experience to anglers from all over the world for decades. The one proven, time-tested method to achieve this is through conservation. A trophy is far too valuable to be killed for taxidermy or Heaven forbid, being cut up for eating. Meta and Ara, AKA the "Walleye Factory", have massive amounts of 14-16-inch delicious eating Walleyes for shore lunch and dinner. Releasing a trophy fish / producer has a twofold effect. One, it remains in the trophy pool and two, strengthens the gene pool through proven genetics. Big fish breed more big fish.

The growth rate of fish in the Arctic Watershed is very slow. A trophy Meta/Ara Pike may be 30 to 40 years old and an eating size 16-inch Walleye is 10 years old.

At "Meta Lake Lodge & Outpost Camps", we depend upon our guests to honor this outstanding fishery through conservation utilizing selective harvest and catch and release practices. Therefore, going forward guests will be required to release all Northern Pike regardless of size and release all Walleye over 18 inches. You will have no problem whatsoever finding eater Walleyes for shore lunch and dinner as well as "take homes" under 18 inches.

As a show of appreciation of this effort, "Meta Lake Lodge & Outpost Camps" will cover the cost of guests opting to purchase a Conservation Fishing License and will simply deduct it from the balance of your package. For guests who do not agree and cannot abide by these rules we would respectfully suggest you pursue alternative outfitter options.

These measures will only make this outstanding fishery even better and allow for generations of anglers to experience the excitement of hooking up with a Meta /Ara Lake Trophy that swims through your dreams and lives in your memory for a lifetime.
